This week marks a pivotal moment for Embark Studios with the launch of ARC Raiders. This new IP, a third-person extraction shooter, is set to release tomorrow, positioned precariously between the launches of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6.
Söderlund shared his thoughts in an interview with The Game Business this week, as reported by Eurogamer. He expressed that he doesn’t believe there is a clearly good or bad time for ARC Raiders to come out. Despite potential criticism about the timing, Söderlund emphasized that the most important thing is that the game simply must be released.
“There are easily arguments to both sides,” Söderlund noted. He is likely familiar with one side of this debate from his experience as a former CEO of DICE. When Titanfall 2 launched between Battlefield One and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, many agree that the crowded release schedule affected the attention that otherwise stellar FPS received during its lifetime.
However, there’s also a solid argument that ARC Raiders is quite different from Call of Duty and Battlefield, and might not have to compete as directly with them as Titanfall did. This distinction could help ARC Raiders carve out its own space in the market despite the intense competition.
