Oops, he did it again. Kevin Federline insisted that he was “just trying to help” his ex-wife Britney Spears with his bombshell memoir, *You Thought You Knew*.
The pop star, 43, has reportedly been “spiraling” over the tell-all. Federline told *Vanity Fair* in an interview published Thursday that he didn’t publish the book to “hurt her” or “bring anybody down.”
The former backup dancer, whose memoir accused Spears of cheating on him, abusing their children, and doing drugs while breastfeeding them, claimed he was “coming from a place of understanding.” The 47-year-old said, “I want people to know that I played a part in all of this as well, right? I’m not pointing fingers here.”
While acknowledging that they both partied while raising sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, he alleged, “The difference is, I knew what was important to me with the kids, and I knew that whenever I had my kids, none of that was happening. Nothing was going on that would affect my parenting.”
Federline also railed against people who “stay silent” about Spears “because they just want to see her get better.” He explained, “It’s about trying to get to a place where it’s like, come on, there is still a path forward that involves you and the kids and people around you that love you, that want to bridge that gap.”
He shared his hopes that the Princess of Pop realizes people “know exactly what’s going on” and “really do care” about her and “want to see greatness happen,” regardless of everything.
When asked whether he is one of these individuals, Federline replied, “Absolutely. I mean, who would I be as a father if I didn’t advocate for my sons’ mom?”
As for Spears’ October 2023 memoir, *The Woman In Me*, Federline noted that he doesn’t “know how accurate all of it was.” However, he said, “She has the right to tell her story. Everybody has a right to tell their story.”
Since Federline began promoting *You Thought You Knew* earlier this month, Spears has clapped back at the book. Her representative called it a chance to “profit off” the songwriter.
Additionally, Spears tweeted, “The constant gaslighting from [my] ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting.” She added days later that it is “scary” how “convincing” Federline has been during press.
On Thursday, the *Daily Mail* obtained footage of the Grammy-winning singer “spiral[ing]” at the Red-O restaurant in Thousand Oaks, Calif., and driving erratically. The *Crossroads* star reportedly is “acting out” because the memoir “put [her] in a tailspin,” with a source claiming, “It’s reopening old wounds.”
