Colombian man to serve minimum 42 years in UK prison for grisly double murder

**Colombian Man Sentenced to Life with Minimum 42 Years for Double Murder in London**

LONDON (AP) — A 35-year-old Colombian man, Yostin Andres Mosquera, was sentenced Friday to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 42 years after being convicted of killing two men in London and dumping their remains in suitcases in southwest England.

Mosquera, 35, was found guilty of murdering Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, in July last year. The killings took place in the victims’ west London apartment where Mosquera had been staying. The men were attacked with a hammer and a knife, according to court reports.

During sentencing at Woolwich Crown Court in east London, Judge Joel Bennathan described the murders as “premeditated and thoroughly wicked.” He emphasized the tragic impact on the victims, stating, “It was their tragedy that you, Yostin Mosquera, came into their lives.”

The court heard that Mosquera decapitated and dismembered both victims. He then froze parts of their remains and transported other parts to the city of Bristol. Three days after body parts in suitcases were discovered on Bristol’s Clifton Suspension Bridge, Mosquera was arrested at a local train station. Further remains were later found at the victims’ London residence.

Mosquera had previously been a sex worker and had been staying with the two men, who had been in a relationship and lived together.

In addition to the murder convictions, Mosquera pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing child pornography during Friday’s hearing.

Taking into account the time Mosquera has already spent in custody, he will not be eligible for parole release for more than 40 years. Judge Bennathan noted that Mosquera may never be released if he fails to meet the requirements set by parole officers once his minimum tariff expires.
