CHICAGO (WGN) – A man has died and another was injured following a shooting on Wednesday afternoon on Chicago’s West Side.
According to Chicago police, the incident occurred just after 3:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of West Erie Street in the Austin neighborhood. Two men, ages 39 and 43, were standing on the sidewalk when five unknown male suspects approached them. One of the suspects then fired multiple gunshots at the two men before fleeing northbound from the scene.
The 39-year-old man was shot in the lower back, buttocks, and hip. He managed to take himself to Loretto Hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition.
The 43-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and head. He was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.
No arrests have been made at this time. Area Four Detectives continue to investigate the shooting.
