The popular online collaboration platform is developing a feature that will automatically update a user’s work location when they connect to their organization’s Wi-Fi network.
### How the Feature Works
According to a recent Microsoft 365 roadmap post, “when users connect to their organization’s Wi-Fi, Teams will automatically set their work location to reflect the building they are working in.” This means that Microsoft Teams will use Wi-Fi networks to detect where users are physically located within their workplace, providing an automatic update to their status.
While this update aims to reduce confusion about where employees are situated throughout the workday, it may also make it harder for those who prefer to find a quiet corner of the office without being disturbed.
### Availability and Compatibility
Currently listed as “in development,” this feature is expected to roll out in December 2025. Upon release, the automatic location update will be available to Microsoft Teams users on both Windows and Mac platforms worldwide.
