Shack Chat: What should be the next Nintendo Pictures Short?

It’s been a little over a week since Nintendo released the *Close to Me* short video, and it has sparked a lively conversation among the Shacknews staff about what we’d like to see next from the Big N. With a treasure trove of intellectual property to choose from, now seems like the perfect time to ask this week’s question:

### What should be the next Nintendo Pictures Short?

#### Kirby
**Ozzie Mejia, Senior – ‘Right Back At Ya’ DVD seeker**
If Nintendo is diving into family-friendly shorts, there’s arguably no better mascot than their resident pink puffball, Kirby. He exudes cuteness and a happy-go-lucky demeanor that resonates with both kids and adults alike. Plus, Kirby’s world is perfect for wacky adventures that fit perfectly into six-minute shorts. Quite simply, the world doesn’t have enough Kirby — it needs more Kirby! And hey, why not have him face off against King Dedede in an eating contest while we’re at it?

#### Yoshi’s Island
**TJ Denzer, Senior News Editor**
Every time Nintendo takes us back to Yoshi’s Island, we’re treated to some of the most vibrant, fun, and even experimental visuals they have to offer. A Nintendo Pictures Short set in that world would be fantastic. There’s so much creative opportunity with the aesthetic alone — from the paper scrapbook look of the original *Yoshi’s Island* games, to the yarn style of *Woolly World* and *Crafted World*, or even the soft 3D style showcased in shorts like *Close to You*. I’m a fan of the Yoshis and their vibrant tropical island, and I’d love to see it brought to life in a short.

#### Star Fox
**Asif Khan, Has done a barrel roll**
As a longtime Star Fox fan who has sadly lost hope for a new game, I think the franchise is perfect for short videos highlighting iconic moments. An encounter with Star Wolf on Venom instantly comes to mind. I’d love to see the Star Fox cast return to screens in any capacity. Come on, Doug Bowser — do the needful!

#### Animal Crossing
**Bill Lavoy, Shackmaps Overlord**
I’ve never played a Nintendo game as much as *Animal Crossing: New Horizons*. It was the perfect game at the perfect time, filled with adorable characters like Isabelle. And then there’s Tom Nook — the ultimate crook. If Nintendo plans to make shorts a regular thing, *Animal Crossing* absolutely has to be included on the list. Tom Nook optional.

#### The Legend of Zelda
**Sam Chandler, Ocarina player**
I think it’s time Nintendo gave us a sneak peek of what a *Legend of Zelda* series could look like. Maybe they should move away from the typical video game aesthetic and offer a brand-new vision. An anime-style Zelda short would be incredible — Link taking down Ganon with the Master Sword, Zelda channeling her inherent power. Make it anime AF.

#### Star Fox (Again)
**Dennis White Jr., Looks edgy like Falco in the mornings**
A brand new *Star Fox* short would be a great way to remind people the series still exists. Many are still discovering the animated short from almost 10 years ago and thinking it’s a new project. Nintendo has a real opportunity here to nail it.

#### Animal Crossing (Again)
**Donovan Erskine, Villager**
Short films could offer unique explorations of existing IP in ways the games don’t. In *Animal Crossing*, the entire world revolves around the player’s character. Everything the villagers say and do is tied to you. I’d love to see a short focused solely on the animal villagers and what they do outside of the human player’s routine. It could feature Tom Nook, Isabelle, or even some lesser-known villagers.

#### The Legend of Zelda (Again)
**Steve Tyminski, Hero of Time!**
This question is interesting because there are a few paths Nintendo could take. They could explore *Donkey Kong Bananza* to flesh out DK and Pauline’s relationship and add to the story after the main game, perhaps showing them hanging out in New Donkey City. Shorts could also bring franchises out of the shadows, like *Star Fox* and *Kid Icarus*, back into the spotlight. But for me, the clear choice is *The Legend of Zelda*. It has some of the best stories Nintendo has ever told, with multiple timelines and characters ripe for exploration. Plus, if fans don’t like it, they can always fall back on “it’s not canon.” My top pick? *The Legend of Zelda*, with an honorable mention to *Donkey Kong Bananza*.

With so many fantastic Nintendo universes to draw from, the possibilities for future Nintendo Pictures Shorts are nearly endless. Which franchise would you love to see brought to life next? Let us know!
