South African cricketer Nonkululeko Mlaba has been reprimanded and handed a demerit point by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching its Level 1 Code of Conduct during the recent ICC Women’s World Cup match against India held in Vizag.

### Incident Overview

The controversy arose during India’s innings when Mlaba, after dismissing Indian batter Harleen Deol in the 17th over, made a waving goodbye gesture. This action was deemed offensive by the ICC and considered a violation of the Code of Conduct.

### Code Violation Details

Mlaba’s gesture breached Article 2.5 of the ICC’s Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which prohibits “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”

Since this was Mlaba’s first offense within a 24-month period, the ICC issued only one demerit point to her disciplinary record.

### Acceptance of Sanction

Mlaba accepted the charges and agreed to the sanction proposed by Trudy Anderson of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees. As she admitted her guilt, no formal hearing was required.

The charges were brought forward by the on-field umpires Jacqueline Williams and Kim Cotton, third umpire Candace le Borde, and fourth umpire Sue Redfern.

### Match Highlights

In the same match, South Africa secured a thrilling three-wicket victory over India. Led by Nadine de Klerk’s unbeaten 84 runs, South Africa successfully chased India’s total of 252 runs with an over to spare.

The match also featured an impressive knock of 94 runs by Richa Ghosh for India. South Africa’s win ended India’s unbeaten streak in the tournament.
