**Vivek Ramaswamy Turns Question About Hindu Beliefs Into Civics Lesson at University of Minnesota**
At a recent Turning Point USA event held at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Republican politician and 2026 Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy addressed a pointed question about his Hindu faith with a thoughtful civics lesson.
During the event, a young Christian attendee named Liam Birmingham challenged Ramaswamy on whether his faith aligns with “Christian values,” specifically asking why a “polytheistic ideology” like Hinduism would share those values.
Ramaswamy responded by clarifying his religious beliefs. “With due respect, I’ll just cut in right there because it’s one thing I have a little bit of authority on,” he said. He explained that he is a monotheist from the Vedanta tradition of Advaita philosophy. He further elaborated, “I believe in this one true God from the Vedanta tradition of Advaita philosophy.”
Drawing parallels between Hinduism and Christianity, Ramaswamy pointed out the conceptual similarity between the Hindu understanding of divine manifestations and the Christian doctrine of the Holy Trinity. “Doesn’t make you a polytheist, does it?” he asked, emphasizing that both faiths reconcile “the one and the many.”
The exchange took an interesting turn when Ramaswamy invited Birmingham on stage and commended him for his question. He then handed the young man a copy of the U.S. Constitution and asked him to read Article VI, Clause 3 aloud. This clause states that “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.”
“What matters more than differences in faith are shared values,” Ramaswamy said. He described the Constitution as “next to my faith and family, the most important thing in life.”
A video of the exchange, which has since gone viral on social media platform X, has garnered over 420,000 views. Online reactions have been mixed: some users praised Ramaswamy for his composure and his emphasis on civic unity, while others questioned his religious background and political ambitions.
This event was part of the “This is the Turning Point Tour,” organized following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA.
