Two police officers have been arrested on charges of possessing marijuana at their respective homes in October. The suspects include a patrol officer from the Akashi Police Station and a sergeant from the Fukiai Police Station.
According to investigators, the probe into the patrol officer, identified as Kato, began after police received a tip about his alleged marijuana possession, which ultimately led to the discovery. The two men reportedly have known each other for about two years, having both been assigned to the community affairs division of the Akashi Station during that time.
During questioning, both officers admitted to the allegations, stating that they possessed the marijuana for their own personal use. Police are continuing their investigation to determine how the two obtained the drug.
The Hyogo Prefectural Police noted that this latest case brings the total number of arrests within the force this year to five. In an official statement, they expressed their disappointment:
“We find it extremely regrettable that police officers themselves have been arrested, and we will respond strictly to the matter.”
