Amaravati: Malaysian companies have expressed keen interest to invest between Rs 6,000 crore and Rs 10,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh’s capital, Amaravati, over the next five years.

A Malaysian delegation, including Selangor State Minister Papparaidu Veraman, Klang MP V. Ganabatirau, representatives of the Malaysia-Andhra Business Chamber, and officials from several private companies, held discussions with Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana on Friday.

The team, which has been visiting the state since October 1, toured Amaravati alongside Minister Narayana to observe the progress of various development projects in the capital city.

Minister Papparaidu stated that the Malaysian delegation is committed to collaborating with India for the development of Amaravati. Several company representatives, particularly those of Telugu origin residing in Malaysia, presented their investment projects through a detailed PowerPoint presentation to Minister Narayana.

According to an official statement, the interested Malaysian companies plan to invest primarily in key sectors such as education, tourism, hospitality, trade and commerce, real estate—including technology transfer, development, and infrastructure—and promotion of Telugu culture.

Notably, the University of Cyberjaya has proposed to establish a medical university in Amaravati, while the Berjaya Group plans to set up luxury five-star hotels in the capital.

Minister Narayana briefed the Malaysian delegation on the ongoing development initiatives in Amaravati, expressing his vision that Amaravati will become one of the top five capitals worldwide. He highlighted that the city is being constructed in a planned manner under the leadership of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

He further informed the delegation that tenders for projects worth Rs 51,000 crore have been completed and that construction work has already commenced, with commitments to complete the work within specified deadlines.

The Minister shared ambitious targets set by the state government, including the completion of 360 km of trunk roads in Amaravati within 18 months, 1,500 km of layout roads within two years, and construction of 4,000 houses for officials, employees, and public representatives by the end of March next year. Additionally, administrative buildings such as the Secretariat Towers, Assembly, and High Court are aimed to be completed within two and a half years.

While acknowledging that rainfall over the past three months has caused some delays, Minister Narayana assured that the pace of work will accelerate in the coming days.

Municipal Department Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar, Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Commissioner Kannababu, and CRDA Additional Commissioner Bhargava Teja were also present during the meeting.
