‘UP To Lead India’s Deep Tech Revolution,’ Says CM Yogi Adityanath

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Envisions Uttar Pradesh as India’s Deep Tech Capital with IIT Kanpur at the Helm

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has unveiled an ambitious vision to establish the state as a frontrunner in deep technology, with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur playing a central role in driving this transformative mission.

Focusing on talent, technology, and startups, the state government aims to position Uttar Pradesh as the deep tech capital of India. Speaking at a program held at IIT Kanpur on Wednesday, the Chief Minister stated, “India’s first Deep Tech ‘India 2025’ will take shape in Uttar Pradesh. A significant summit should be organized where scientists, researchers, and startups from across the country come together to create a roadmap. IIT Kanpur should be the epicentre of this initiative, as it already has the capacity for national leadership in deep tech innovation.”

In a strategic move, the government has allocated land in Gautam Buddh Nagar for the development of a Deep Tech hub. This facility will be developed in collaboration with premier institutions such as the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), further strengthening the state’s innovation ecosystem.

Currently, IIT Kanpur is incubating hundreds of startups and fostering cutting-edge scientific research. The institution’s strong alumni network is expected to accelerate this mission even further. A recent survey of 410 IIT Kanpur alumni revealed encouraging levels of commitment: 75% expressed willingness to mentor startups or student groups, 63% offered to provide industry insights, 46% pledged to promote collaborations, 21% plan to bring industries to Uttar Pradesh, and 15% are ready to invest financially.

These contributions underscore the unprecedented role alumni will play in powering the deep tech ecosystem in the state.

The detailed roadmap includes incubating over 250 deep tech startups, collectively valued at more than Rs 2.5 lakh crore, and creating at least 10,000 direct jobs. This thriving ecosystem aims to retain young talent, bolster self-reliance, and ensure that research and development efforts extend beyond laboratories to market-ready products.

With the combined strengths of the Yogi government’s strong commitment, IIT Kanpur’s expertise, and proactive alumni support, Uttar Pradesh is set to transition from being primarily a consumer state into a vibrant hub of innovation — emerging as India’s engine of technological progress.
