Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Housemarque have announced that the third-person action game *Saros* will launch exclusively for the PlayStation 5 on March 20, 2026.
Watch the official gameplay reveal trailer below:

### Introducing Saros: A Dream Project by a Dream Team
This gameplay showcased was captured on PlayStation 5 at 60fps using Unreal Engine 5. Please note that the footage is still a work in progress, so expect tweaks, fixes, and upgrades when playing *Saros* on your PlayStation 5 or enhanced on the PlayStation 5 Pro in 2026.
For this extended gameplay reveal, the developers wanted to establish the world and story first, then focus purely on the deep third-person action gameplay and how they are pushing the experience to the next level with *Saros*.

### The Shape-Shifting Planet of Carcosa
The events of *Saros* take place on Carcosa, a hostile alien planet that continuously morphs and changes with every death. It features a wide variety of environments and enemies for players to encounter.
In this gameplay first look, we follow protagonist Arjun Devraj (performed by Rahul Kohli) as he explores the planet during the approach of a total eclipse. Along the way, Arjun meets Nitya Chandran (performed by Shunori Ramanthan), an important member of the ensemble cast.
The stunning environment Arjun traverses is that of a lost ancient civilization, powered by the twisted enlightenment brought by the eclipse. This is just one of the many unique biomes the talented team behind *Saros* is creating.

### How Our Action Gameplay Has Evolved
For this initial gameplay reveal, the team wanted to present real, unedited footage from *Saros*, then break down some of the new elements built on top of Returnal’s award-winning third-person action.
Their goal has been to add more depth to gameplay by expanding the variety of tools available. Arjun’s Soltari advanced combat suit allows him to dash, melee, jump, and more. At the start of each run, players select a loadout combining Soltari human weaponry with Carcosan alien weaponry.
In the video, Arjun uses the Soltari Phosphorous Shotgun to defend himself and eliminate hostile machines lurking within the lost ancient city. Expect spectacular bullet patterns from enemies and brutal weapons that fuel the game’s science-fiction power fantasy.

### Weaponry and Abilities
Arjun’s unique abilities include:
– **Soltari Shield**: Activated by holding R1, Arjun can run into hostile projectiles, absorbing their energy to defend himself.
– **Carcosan Power Weapon**: After absorbing energy, Arjun can unleash a powerful counterattack. This weapon arm charges up by harvesting energy from enemy projectiles (pull L2 fully) and discharges explosive damage with R2.
Power Weapons transform Arjun’s right arm into a weapon fueled by the eclipse’s corruption, granting an alternate and customizable way to deal devastating damage to enemies.

### Storytelling in Carcosa
*Saros* expands narrative storytelling through grounded voice-over, stunning cinematics, haunting audio logs, and meaningful conversations with an ensemble cast of NPCs.
Players can also collect Soltari Holograms scattered throughout Carcosa, which provide crucial lore and backstory about what has happened on this hostile planet.
In addition, there will be surreal and mysterious storytelling sequences, with more details to be shared closer to launch.
—
### The Second Chance Ability and Permanent Progression
An exciting feature is the **Second Chance** ability. Upon death, Arjun can use eclipse corruption energy to resurrect once, providing a chance to continue the run.
This is part of the game’s permanent-progression systems, allowing players to upgrade Arjun’s Soltari advanced combat suit and abilities over time, becoming stronger after each death.

### Collaboration and Creative Partners
*Saros* has been crafted by a dream team of collaborators. For this PlayStation Blog post, special shoutouts go to PlayStation Studio partners including XDEV, Nixxes, PlayStation Studios Creative Arts teams, and many others.
Nixxes has worked closely with Housemarque’s creative, gameplay, art, and production leadership on key elements of the game’s art and gameplay. Their collaboration shines through in the gameplay reveal.
Following their award-winning work on *Returnal*, PlayStation Studios Creative Arts are back assisting Housemarque, contributing to the standout sound and music you hear in the reveal.
—
### Sound and Music Crafted by Sam Slater
The dark-electronic meets drone-metal musical score featured in the gameplay showcase—and the earlier cinematic announcement—was composed by the two-time Grammy Award-winning Sam Slater.
Sam’s previous work includes acclaimed projects like *Chernobyl* and *Joker*, as well as the cult film *Mandy*. Expect an upcoming deep dive into the musical score and Sam’s creative process as the launch approaches.
The team aims to deliver a bold, innovative score unlike anything else in the medium today.

### Looking Ahead
In the future, more information will be shared about *Saros*’ mysterious, monstrous, and moving story—including in-depth looks at the plot, the ensemble cast of NPCs, and the lost off-world colony on Carcosa that players will explore.
