Kher gets candid about ‘Saiyaara’ ‘wiping out’ ‘Tanvi The Great’

**Anupam Kher Opens Up About ‘Saiyaara’ Overshadowing His Film ‘Tanvi The Great’**

Veteran actor and director Anupam Kher recently spoke candidly about the unfortunate box office clash between his movie *Tanvi The Great* and the blockbuster *Saiyaara*. In an interview with Anant Goenka of Expresso, Kher revealed the emotional toll the situation took on him.

“I worked for four years on this film,” Kher said. “We released the film on the same day as *Saiyaara*, and it got completely wiped out. It depressed me. It made me feel very sad, not just for myself, but for the new actor whom I took from my acting school.”

### Financial Struggles Before Release

Kher also disclosed that *Tanvi The Great* faced serious financial hurdles ahead of its launch. “The financer of the film ran away a month before its release. It’s a costly film, so I called my friends who are doctors, lawyers, etc. They gave me the money,” he explained.

Despite these challenges, the film managed to garner international attention, being screened at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival and later in New York. Hollywood legend Robert De Niro reportedly watched the film until the interval and praised it as a good piece of cinema.

### About *Tanvi The Great* and *Saiyaara*

Directed by Anupam Kher, *Tanvi The Great* features a star-studded cast including Arvind Swami, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Iain Glen, and Pallavi Joshi. The film narrates the inspirational story of an autistic woman determined to hoist the Indian flag at Siachen, fulfilling her father’s lifelong dream.

On the other hand, *Saiyaara* is a musical romantic drama directed by Mohit Suri. It follows the love story between aspiring journalist and poet Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda) and struggling musician Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday).

### Box Office Performance

While *Saiyaara* emerged as the biggest romantic film in Indian cinema history, grossing an impressive ₹570.25 crore worldwide and ranking among the highest-grossing films of 2025 as per Sacnilk, *Tanvi The Great* struggled at the box office, earning only ₹2.54 crore globally despite its accomplished cast and Kher’s directorial vision.

In a hopeful move, *Tanvi The Great* is scheduled for a re-release this Friday, aiming to reach a wider audience and receive the recognition it deserves.

*Stay tuned for more updates on both films and the Indian film industry.*
