Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar has been included in Surrey’s squad for their upcoming County Championship match against Hampshire at the Utilita Bowl. Registered with the team for the final phase of the season in early September, Chahar is expected to make his debut after missing out on two previous home games against Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire.
### Career Highlights
Rahul Chahar, 26, has featured in seven One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India. Representing Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy, he has taken 87 wickets in 24 first-class matches at an impressive average of 26.12. His best match figures stand at a remarkable 9 for 148.
Chahar began his IPL journey with the Rising Pune Supergiants but gained wider recognition playing for Mumbai Indians. He played a key role in Mumbai’s IPL title wins in 2019 and 2020. After being acquired by Punjab Kings in 2022, he most recently represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in last season’s IPL.
### Recent Developments
Surrey has added Chahar to their squad to cover for injured spin options Will Jacks and Cam Steel. The team will face Hampshire, who have recently signed Indian spinner Washington Sundar for their final two fixtures of the season.
### Player’s Statement
Expressing his enthusiasm, Chahar said, “I am excited to join Surrey for this week’s match. I look forward to making an impact and helping the team in their final game of the season.”
Alec Stewart, Surrey’s director of cricket, welcomed Chahar’s inclusion, highlighting that the addition provides the team with another valuable spin option at the Utilita Bowl.
