The ongoing Asia Cup 2025 is brewing excitement every day for cricket fans with its never-ending thrill and drama. In the second match of the Super Fours stage between India and Pakistan, Team India registered a clinical 6-wicket victory over their arch-rivals, thanks to valuable contributions from Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill with the bat.
Abhishek Sharma was awarded the Player of the Match for his impressive innings, scoring 74 runs. While Indian fans were busy celebrating his performance, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag shared some priceless advice for the young batter during the post-match interview.
In a special interaction, former Indian cricketers Irrfan Pathan and Virender Sehwag spoke with Sharma. Sehwag congratulated him for his impactful innings and immediately advised, “Whenever you are scoring around 70 or 80 runs and you know it is your day, always try to convert it into a hundred.” He revealed that this was advice he had received from the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.
Sehwag said in Hindi,
“Jab 70 pe pohoch jao toh 100 miss mat karo, kyuki yeh baat mujhe Sunil Gavaskar ne kahi thi, kyuki jab retire honge na tab unn innings ke bare mein sochoge ki agar unko convert kar liya hota toh mere paas bhi itne shatak hote. Yeh mauke baar baar nahi ayenge.”
In a lighter moment later during the show, host Gaurav Kapur joked that Sehwag does not even need to advise Abhishek Sharma anymore, as he is sure to get a call from Yuvraj Singh (Yuvi Paaji) soon. Responding to this, Sharma shared a funny piece of advice he once received from Yuvraj Singh:
“Agar tune ek chakka mara toh dusre ko bhi marne ka mauka de.”
(If you hit a six, give a chance to the other batter as well to hit one.)
