Nomad’s land

Call them wandering mystics, if you will. But in vernacular, they are defined by one mighty compelling word: malang.

The malangs don’t have a place they’d call home. As such, they are almost nomadic. They often camp in small groups next to shrines and may associate themselves with the Sufis and shrines they are visiting.

They participate in festivals (or Urs) and may also perform dhamal, a devotional dance. Since they don’t seek material gains and have no steady source of income, they get their day’s meals at the langars at the shrines.
